Mother and Son Represent Don Bosco School Park Circus at COP29 Climate Conference in Baku

Kolkata, November 11, 2024 — Don Bosco School Park Circus is proud to announce that a mother-son team from the school will represent India as part of the United Nations Agency for Development and Peace (UNADAP) delegation to the COP29 Climate Conference, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22, 2024.

The school’s delegates to COP29 are 14-year-old Climate Champion Swanik Choudhury, a Class IX student, and his mother, Mrs. Swati Choudhury, a dedicated Class V teacher at Don Bosco Park Circus. They will bring a unique, family-based perspective to this global platform, where leaders and environmentalists from around the world will convene to discuss solutions to pressing climate issues.

Swanik, who is a talented musician and debater, has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental conservation, implementing various eco-friendly initiatives at his school and in his community. Under the guidance of his Principal, Father V.C. George, Swanik has set up compost pits, initiated rainwater harvesting, and established a kitchen garden and sapling plantation. "Swanik’s commitment to a cleaner, greener world embodies the values of the Green Movement, making him an ideal candidate to contribute meaningfully to COP29," shared Father George. "His passion for practical, earth-friendly solutions reflects our school’s commitment to environmental education and action."

Expressing gratitude to Principal Father George for this incredible opportunity, Swanik stated, "I’m thrilled to attend COP29. This experience will allow me to learn from diverse perspectives and enhance my negotiation, teamwork, and public speaking skills."

Mrs. Swati Choudhury, a seasoned educator with nearly a decade of experience in preschool and primary education, has inspired countless young learners with her dynamic teaching style and commitment to scientific discovery and environmental stewardship. She is known for her strong connection with students and parents alike, fostering a nurturing learning environment that encourages curiosity and responsibility toward the planet.

The duo will depart for Baku on November 16 to attend the conference’s second session, representing Kolkata and the Don Bosco spirit of youth-driven environmental action.

AIDBES congratulates Fr. V.C. George for this initiative and for preparing Swanik for this prestigious opportunity and commends the school’s mission to nurture globally minded, environmentally responsible leaders of tomorrow.

Secretary's Message

Mother Teresa once said, "There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread." This statement underscores the profound impact that appreciation can have on individuals, particularly students.
